Au mois de Mars dernier au Slick Dessin 09, le public parisien découvre les dessins de Steven Tabbutt et admire un foisonnement visuel d’allégories et de métaphores, inspiré des contes de fées magiques et pourtant bien ambigus.
Pour sa première exposition individuelle, le jeune artiste a construit une trame narrative intitulée “Paper Seeds” où chaque pièce tire ses racines dans une autre. Le développement de chaque image et personnage, de son discours et environnement n’est limité que par son catalyseur et les dimensions du papier. La chronologie du roman coule sans interruption sur le papier, d’une œuvre à l’autre et nous invite à contempler des scènes du monde contemporain, de son message alarment et de décadence.

It was last March at Slick Dessin Art Fair, the Parisian public discovered and shared the sensation from Steven Tabbutt’s drawings, a visual proliferation of allegories and metaphors, a fairy tales-inspired yet ambiguously drawn ideals.
For his first solo show, the young artist constructed a series of narratives titled “Paper Seeds”. Each piece takes root in the next. The growth of each image and character, narrative and setting, is limited only by its catalyst and the dimensions of the page. A timeline fiction will flow on a piece of paper, one after another, inviting us into the scenes of modern world’s, its alarming urgency and decay.
