Billeneeve

Billeneeve concentrates on her own body, which she treats, covers or uncovers with various methods, she let us step out of the forced frames and discover another kind of reality.

Billeneeve dresses herself as she makes sculptures. During performance, she burns on skin, the girls are sewn together. Those are simultaneously femininely brutal and sexually exciting; they provoke and cause discomfort, as the artist reveals the ‘darker side’ in the very depth of all of us and tears it naked under the viewers’ eyes, sometimes to the bone.

As an active participant of a well known performance collective “Non Grata”, she was present in various performance events also abroad, including US, Germany and South Korea

"Silencia", 2006, DVD 4 min. 16 sec., in collaboration with Rubens

The video is made out of the live performance at beautiful frozen Pärnu beach, Estonia in January 2006. Billeeneeve, dressed light wearing on her back many balloons (made out of latex gloves), while a woman in wedding dress chases her with paint ball gun. Billeneeve cries loud “silencia!”.

Billeneeve’s self-uncovering performance is a perfect sample of what we can call “decorative sadomasochism”, which does not mean anything on a scale of good or bad. Regardless of the “visual terrorism” there is something divine in it, a sense of good old days, and classical aesthetic of early twentieth century fine art. And the fear and the scare accompany the disparate desire for old time gods, childhood and being in mother’s womb.
